Google’s Play Store search now includes sponsored results. This supplemented the already commercial content of the service.
Your four most recent searches will now appear in the Google Play search box when you touch it. However, below your past searches you may now see sponsored recommendations and up to three “limited-time events.”
Users will now see “Ad” next to “Sponsored Suggestions” in search results. In addition to the app’s name, icon, rating, and download tally, limited-time events, such as upcoming sporting contests or in-game events, are now presented in search history as cards.
These ads may promote applications or events within apps that you have never actively sought out. After your most recent four searches, there will be up to three spots for adverts, such as sponsored recommendations or time-sensitive events.
Google claims these positions will help promote app creators for no further cost.
These advertisements are being provided at no cost to the advertiser. An organic discovery tool is being tested on Google Play to highlight recently updated applications and games, those with active events, and those with deals that may be of interest to consumers.
“We’re testing this feature to support our developer ecosystem and to help Google Play users find more enjoyable and useful apps,”
In addition, we’ve made a minor adjustment to the design so that recent searches have bigger icons next to them.
Google said in April that they will be updating their system in a new way, and they have been doing so gradually over the previous few weeks. Details on other Play Store updates, such as the inclusion of “key app and game highlights from what others are saying” in Play search results, have also been revealed by Google.
