Tuesday, Sona BLW Precision Forgings announced that it has signed a technology licensing agreement with Equipmake of the United Kingdom for the production of electric vehicle components.
Equipmake’s patented technology offers a combination of high power density and efficiency, making it suitable for electric automobiles, buses, and commercial vehicles.
Under the terms of the agreement, Equipmake will grant Sona BLW Precision Forgings (Sona Comstar) a license to manufacture and sell EV powertrains, sub-systems, and components for electric cars, buses, commercial vehicles, and off-road vehicles, using patented spoke motors and inverter technology with a power range of 100kW to 440kW.

Sona Comstar will be responsible for business development and customer sales in India, Thailand, and select South Asian countries, while Equipmake will be responsible for sales in the rest of the globe, according to a statement from the company.
In addition, Sona Comstar will manufacture EV powertrains, subsystems, and components, based on Equipmake’s patented technology, exclusively for the target applications in India and other select markets.
In addition, the company will manufacture and sell EV powertrains, subsystems, and components for the targeted applications to Equipmake and its global customers in other international markets, according to the announcement.
The corporations anticipate beginning serial production of the systems in 2025.
